Mission Statement

The Hamilton Black Film Festival (HBFF) is dedicated to celebrating and advancing the creative voices of Black filmmakers from Canada and around the world. Our mission is to amplify Black stories, promote diverse perspectives, and foster artistic excellence through the power of film, dialogue, and community engagement.

We exist to provide an inclusive platform that empowers underrepresented filmmakers, educates audiences, and honors the cultural richness of the African diaspora.

Vision Statement

We envision a world where Black creativity is celebrated without boundaries, where diverse narratives are not only seen—but valued, taught, and remembered. HBFF aims to be a leading cultural force in reshaping how Black stories are told, shared, and experienced.

Through annual screenings, industry panels, workshops, and community partnerships, we strive to build a lasting legacy that bridges cultures, sparks conversation, and inspires generations.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the City of Hamilton for its invaluable support of HBHH 2025. Your commitment to arts, culture, and community empowerment has helped make this program meaningful and impactful. Through your support, we were able to celebrate diverse voices, uplift creative talent, and bring our community together through shared cultural experiences. Your investment reflects a deep belief in inclusiveness, creativity, and the power of storytelling. The City of Hamilton continues to be a vital partner in fostering artistic growth and community connection. We sincerely thank you for helping us inspire, engage, and elevate our community.

Our commitment extends beyond the screen. We strive to:

  • Support and uplift underrepresented filmmakers through screenings, panels, and workshops

  • Create accessible opportunities for filmmakers of African descent and the African diaspora

  • Foster community engagement and cultural dialogue in Hamilton and beyond

  • Encourage mentorship and collaboration within the film industry

  • Promote stories that reflect the richness, resilience, and brilliance of Black life

We are not just a festival—we are a movement dedicated to advancing Black creativity, preserving cultural legacy, and igniting social change through film.
